Rauw Alejandro
In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs in just six months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop which not only brought attention to Latin Music but as well reggaeton. In 2015 there were only two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017 19 songs mostly composed in Spanish were in the top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix to Despacito (2017) popular artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma for Medellin (2019). A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new group, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. The group incorporated elements from different genres and electronic music.
