 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation, [se'lenakinta'nija'peres]; April 16, 1971 - March 31 1995) is also known as Selena, is a famous American Tejano singer. Selena was known as the "Queen Tejano music", her contribution to music and fashion led her to be one of the most popular Mexican-American entertainers ever. Billboard magazine placed her third on their 2020 list of "Greatest Latino Artists" Based on Latin album releases and Latin charts of music. Because of her clothing choices, media outlets called her the Tejano Madonna. She is also among the most popular Latin artists ever and has been credited with bringing the Tejano genre into the mainstream market.The youngest child of the Quintanilla family, she first appeared in the music industry as a member of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which included her elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. In the 80s, she frequently criticised for her singing Tejano music which was a male-dominated music genre. She was also refused the opportunity to perform at Texas venues. After receiving the Tejano Music Award in 1987 for Female Vocalist, she gained recognition. In 1989 she signed with EMI Latin and released her debut album titled Entre a Mi Mundo (1992). Her brother was her main music producer and songwriter. Entre a Mi Mundo reached the top spot in the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums charts for eight consecutive weeks. Music critics called it"the "breakthrough recording" of her musical career because of its commercial success. "Como la Flor", one of its singles, became her most loved hero song. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido became one the most sought-after Latin albums in the United States in 1994. It was critically acclaimed as having been the cause of Tejano music's first period of commercialization since it was one of the most loved Latin music subgenres at the time.
